Why Green? Why Recycled?

Why Green?

Why Green?

A typical office worker uses up to 45 sheets of paper per day, of which over half is considered waste.  77 percent of wasted paper in offices is high grade and recyclable so purchasing recycled products has a direct impact on the environment.

Why Recycled?

Save Energy
The pulp and paper industry is the world’s fifth largest industrial consumer of energy. Recycling paper to make paper saves on average 40 percent less energy than making paper from trees.

Save Trees
For every tree cut down for paper, 50 perent is useless for paper production because of knots and material that can’t be used to make paper. One tree gives on average 80,000 sheets of paper but paper is a natural resource that can be recycled up to five times. Recycling one tonne of paper saves 17 mature trees.

Save Water
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found that recycling paper causes 35 percent less water pollution and 74 percent less air pollution than making virgin paper.

Save Chemicals
Producing virgin paper requires a number of chemical processes that release chemicals into the environment, recycled paper production requires fewer chemical processes. The production of recycled paper also reduces carbon emissions. In addition, carbon is retained in the paper when recycled rather than being released when incinerated or broken down in landfill sites. When compared to the production of virgin paper, 1 tonne of recycled paper can save 1.32 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Saves landfills
It is estimated that in 10 years time the UK will run out of space in its landfill areas. 40 percent of all waste going to landfill is paper. Cutting down on paper waste will extend the life of our landfills and leave it for things that cannot be recycled.

Our commitment to green
Blake is an environmentally responsible company. 100 percent of our products -  recycled or not - comply with the EU Timber Regulation (2013) that prohibits the importation and use of illegally harvested timber and timber products in EU countries.

40 percent of our products are FSC Certified, a global forest certification system that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests and some of our products also carry the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Our Premium Pure range of recycled products are produced from 100 percent recovered fibre according to FSC®. Manufactured without chlorine bleaching, high whiteness is achieved thanks to a special converting process for recycled fibre. The paper has high opacity and good sheet formation in addition to maximum ageing resistance and excellent runability on all types of machines thanks to Lenzing's experience in producing copy paper for the past few decades.
