Here at Blake, charitable work plays a key part in our identity, and we are committed to giving our support to a variety of local and national charities with substantial donations.
On Friday 7th June, we presented a cheque for £500 to the Yeovil District Hospital Intensive Care Unit, which was nominated by our Key Account Manager Vickie Clarke.
This wonderful department provides a world-class level of care for the sickest patients in Yeovil Hospital. Each bed space they offer is equipped to the same high specification with a system providing vital monitoring and delivering drugs from an overhead unit, eliminating the need for wires and cables and enabling this life-saving equipment to be moved swiftly and conveniently around the bed.
Most of the patients in the Intensive Care Unit are admitted because of their need for urgent medical and nursing treatment, and these are sometimes directly from the Emergency Department for reasons such as cardiac arrest, road traffic accident or collapse. Other patients may be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit from other parts of the hospital when they experience a change in their clinical condition which means that they require the specialist skills provided in this area. In the most intense circumstances, patients need breathing machines and must be very closely monitored.
Each and every patient has their own personal nurse, and will also have several visits a day from the doctors looking after of them to ensure they receive the best possible care.
Here Vickie shares why she nominated them, and how they have had an impact on her life:
"I chose for Blake’s to donate to the ICU Team at Yeovil District Hospital having seen first hand the fantastic work they do. Mum was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery last year, and the doctors and nurses worked around the clock to try and save her. The care and compassion they showed towards her and the rest of our family was incredible. We will always be grateful to them for everything they did."
We at Blake recognise the outstanding and invaluable work they do, and wanted to offer our support with this donation.
