Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a genetic, neuromuscular condition that makes the muscles weaker, causing problems with movement. This condition affects each individual and their family differently, so it is important that they obtain the right support, care and opportunities.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK, are a charity that provides accurate information and a wide range of support to those who have been affected, whist working to improve access to the best care, services and drug treatments.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK’s Vision:
“Everyone affected by SMA has access to the best care, support and drug treatments; research continues to bring breakthroughs that improve people’s quality of life, and ultimately aims to find a cure.”
Their strategy is:
- To provide information and support services in the UK for families and individuals, the SMA community and health, education and social care professionals.
- To work to improve and monitor SMA community access so that they can care and support, create new drug treatment and trials, and improve equipment and adaptations.
- Gain more funding to support research, to understand SMA, develop drug treatments, improve clinical care and to strengthen and develop the UK SMA scientific and clinical community.
